Hello, I’m Mary Hendricks, Director of Sales for the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Merrimack. Summertime is winding down and vacations are coming to an end, signaling that back-to-school time is near. It’s a time that many children eagerly anticipate — catching up with old friends and making new ones, and settling into a new daily routine. Parents and children alike scan the newspapers and websites looking for sales to shop for a multitude of school supplies and the latest clothing fads and essentials. There is not a better time to add the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce to your to do list. Come join us for one of our monthly business after hours, before 9 networking or a lunch and learn to teach you the continuing changing social media marketing ideas. Your children are learning something new and making new friends each day, why shouldn’t you! The Chamber of Commerce is a great way to grow your business by building relationships. I have belonged to the Merrimack Chamber for over 10 years and have been on the Board of Directors for 6. During this time I have learned about businesses that I would never have known about. I have had a chance to make friends with people in town that I am sure I would not have had the opportunity to meet if not for the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce. The relationships I have built have helped me with not only my job but feeling I am part of the community of Merrimack. I wish you all a happy autumn! First day of school is September 6th. Please, drive carefully and watch out for our children.
Hello, I’m Karen Keating, AVP Commercial Loan Officer for Granite Bank and the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce. I have been a member with the Merrimack Chamber for about five years now and can’t believe how it has helped me understand the opportunities of the area and become involved in the community. I have spent many years volunteering in several non-profit organizations as well as other local chambers so I am very familiar with how they work. Merrimack is a fast growing community that has many businesses both large and small and getting involved is so important.
As many business leaders would tell you, networking in the business community is the best way to build your business. It gives you the one on one time to meet and get to know each other and build a rapport that can be grown into a strong business relationship. The Merrimack Chamber of Commerce is the perfect size organization to join as it is large enough to meet and get to know the businesses and contacts yet small enough that you don’t get lost in the crowd. The opportunities to grow your business connections and become involved in one or more of the committees, which are great fun and a great team building experience, are vast.
Last but not least, E-blast advertising is one of the tools that the Chamber offers that has paid off for my business and brought in several new customers. Check out the many inexpensive and far reaching opportunities for advertising through the Chamber today.
We are excited to announce our first ever candidate series this month. Covering four Tuesday mornings, we will offer members and the community at large an opportunity to speak with those running for office one on one, to hear their platform, and to ask questions. Space is limited, so make sure you sign up today!
The Merrimack Chamber will also be working with the town in the planning of the Fall Festival and Business Expo for the first time this year. The event will be held at James Mastricola Upper Elementary School from 10:00AM - 2:00PM on Saturday, October 1st. More information on the Expo can be found here. Register now to secure a booth!
Our annual Excellence Awards dinner is right around the corner. It will be held on Thursday, September 22nd from 6:00PM - 9:00PM at the Event Center in the Courtyard Nashua this year. There are many sponsorship opportunities available. This is a great way to get your name in front of other businesses, in the time leading up to and during the event itself. We have added an additional category for awards this year - Small Business of the Year. Nominations for Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Business Leader of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year will be open soon, so please start thinking about who you would like to recognize.
Also in the works is a bike race through Grater Woods in Merrimack. The education committee is working with the town's conservation committee to put on this event. It is scheduled for Sunday, October 2nd, with races beginning at 8:00AM. If you would like to be involved in the planning of the race, the proceeds of which will go to our scholarship fund, please contact me.
We are still looking to rent out the extra office at our new location. Do you know someone who works from home who needs a place to hold meetings, and would benefit from the increased visibility of being in the Chamber office? Please have them contact me.
It's hard to believe that a year has already passed since I stepped into this role. It has been both challenging and rewarding. A lot of changes have been implemented in the past year, and we continue to work diligently to improve member benefits and experience, and to strengthen our role in the community. If there is anything you would like to see from your Chamber, please let us know. Feedback is always welcomed.
